Life is short, do what you can with it. |
A twenty something student and aspiring marathon runner struggling to eat heathy and find a weight I am confortable with. Basically my journey to finding the person I want to be! |
I knew it was going to be hot today so i kicked my butt out of bed this morning to get my run in early! 4 miles, 10/mile pace. It felt good, I felt strong and it was so gorgeous outside! All I can say though is thank god I have outgrown my allergies cause the dandelions are in full swing! And they matched my shirt! Sometimes it’s the little things! :)

Time for a coffee date with a friend and then my date from a couple weeks ago is going to meet up with us to see a movie!…in case you can’t tell its going really well! Life is good guys! :)
Happy Tuesday everyone! :)
So many reasons, to much to say this late at night but things are starting to align, finally!
It’s going to be a good summer! :)
Details to come, I promise!
Feeling much better! Back at the gym today! 3 easy miles and 30 minutes weight training :)
This girl has a bacterial infection! :( my left gland is swollen to the size of a golf ball and I have a terrible fever, I haven’t run since sunday! :(
All I can say is thank god this happened now and not before my half! I would have been so disappointed!
Antibiotics and fluids and hopefully I will be back on track soon!
My very first half marathon! Chip time 2:13:50, I was aiming for under 2 and a half hours so I’ll take it! It was a crazy weekend by the time we went into the city on Saturday to pick up my bib and kit and then were up at 6 to be at the starting line by 7:45 this morning. I don’t think I slept more than 5 hours last night, I went to bed early but was to nervous to get to sleep at a decent hour. I dragged my butt out of bed, put on my running gear, had a poached egg on an english muffin and we were out the door!

The starting line was packed! Once we started it was really slow moving until I was about half a mile into the race and things started to clear up a bit.

Mile 1 to 5 were really good, I felt strong but I was still stopping at all the water stations. It was really sunny so the heat was getting to me. (next time I won’t wear a black shirt!) Mile 5 to 7 I started to feel a little worn down, I was getting tired and I was no longer sweating so I knew I was really dehydrated. It was at mile 8 that I really hit a wall, I honestly doubted my ability to make it to the finish line at this point- it was at this moment that the 2 hour walk/run pace bunny passed me! I was in shock! Had I really been running the first half that fast? I knew I couldn’t keep up that pace especially since I trained at a 10min/mile pace for most of my training and that was without walk breaks. The flow of the race had really sucked me in and I was apparently keeping pace. I took my GU at this point, and took a minute to let it settle and just tried to slow my pace a bit. Mile 9-12 are a blur but they were much less difficult than mile 8! I was feeling more comfortable with my pace. It was at the beginning of mile 13 that my mom, aunt and best friend were waiting to cheer me on! They made awesome signs (anyone seen the marathon episode of How I Met your Mother? haha) and really helped me to keep going!
The last mile was not what i expected at all, there were so many spectators and people cheering and I was really able to push hard to the finish!

I came in strong and felt good when I was done! My mom was able to capture a great finish photo too! Such a great experience for my first half! I can’t wait to do it all again!

30 mintues strength training and 30 minutes spin, cause sometimes I do things other than running! :)

Good way to clear the head! Happy Monday everyone! :)

Last long run, 9 miles done! In one week I will officially have completed a half marathon! WOAH

Felt good today! I was another hot one but it is suppose to be pretty warm next weekend so it was good to get my last training run done in the heat! I took some shot bloks at miles 5 and I plan to take some at mile 6 and possibly again at miles 10.5 depending how I’m feeling next sunday. I’m so nervous but I feel ready, I stuck to my training plan almost to a T and I feel mentally ready to do this! A few 4 miles runs and some cross training are the only thing that stand between me and that finisher medal!
High school style! Circa 2006

Back when I rowed 6 days a week! I miss this so much! I was super active in high school between running, rowing and soccer so when I started university it was a shock to my system for sure! I kept running but was not nearly as active and my eating habit caught up with me. Once I got back into a regular workout routine after first year I started feeling much better! I still really miss rowing though, it was such a great team sport, one where you really had to pull you weight (literally!) or you really let your team down. It was easily one of the best experiences I had in high school, I met so many people and really fell in love with the active lifestyle that I still maintain today!
Last night i didn’t get home until after midnight and had a full day of shopping with some friends in Toronto so we were going to be leaving early! I wasn’t driving so I had no idea what time we were going to be home and I knew I had to run 7 miles today. Long story short, I dragged my tired butt out of bed at 6:30 to get those 7 miles done before we even left! My legs were hurting a little while we were shopping but I was fine after we got going! All the girls I went with could not possibly believe that I had already run 7 miles before we even left! It was a pretty good feeling! yay for time management! :)
